RESUMEN
Con el fin de determinar el comportamiento clínico y el tratamiento de la celulitis facial odontógena, se realizó un estudio descriptivo de serie de casos en 53 pacientes ingresados en el Servicio de Cirugía Maxilofacial del Hospital Provincial Docente Vladimir Ilich Lenin de Holguín, durante los años 2008 y 2009. La enfermedad se presentó con mayor frecuencia entre los 15 y los 24 años (35,85%); existió un ligero predominio del sexo femenino (54,72%). La región anatómica más afectada fue la submandibular (20,12%). Al acudir al Servicio de Urgencia habían recibido tratamiento con penicilinas solo el 26,2% de los pacientes. A nivel local, el síntoma más frecuente fue la inflamación aguda. La combinación de penicilina y metronidazol constituyó la terapia antimicrobiana de elección durante el ingreso (45,27%). Se realizó la exodoncia durante las primeras 24 h en el mayor número de casos. La estadía hospitalaria se encontró en el rango de entre tres y cuatro días (47,17%). En la atención primaria aún existen deficiencias en la correcta medicación con antibióticos. La extracción precoz del foco séptico está en relación directa con la evolución del paciente.

ABSTRACT
With
the purpose of determining the clinical behavior and the treatment of the
Cellulitis of the face caused by a teeth, it a descriptive study of series of
cases in 53 patients admitted at the Surgery Maxilofacial Service of
V. I. Lenin University Hospital , Holguín, during 2008 and 2009 was
carried out. The illness was presented with more frequency in the age
group between 15 and 24 years (35.85%), existing a slight incidence of
the female sex (5472%). The anatomical submandibular region was the most
affected one (20.12%). At Emergency Service only 26.21% of patients had
received treatment with penicillin. The signs and frequent symptoms were tha
acude immflamation. The antimibiotic used were the combination of
penicillin and metronidazol constituted (45.27%), and the extraction of teeth
was performed during the first 24 hours in most of patients. The
patients were admitted between three and four days (47.17. The precocious
extraction of the septic focus represents and important therapy for the
patient's future evolution.
